Jaén Plaza mall:
Project information

Shopping malls have traditionally been business complexes designed to attract shoppers, where the main focus was on commercial spaces and "consuming" time.

As architectural concepts evolve, so does our relationship with spaces. Shopping centers are no longer rigid structures, but dynamic and synergistic environments. Jaén Plaza embraces this change through a mesh-like spatial organization, where the spaces between commercial areas take on social value.

Contemporary shopping centers are thus transformed into lively, multifunctional spaces, full of activity, inviting us to invest our time rather than simply spend it.

Retail Manifesto

The relevance of social connections and their influence on space

We prioritize people and their social interactions within buildings, ensuring that the design is conceived by and for the user. Spaces should reflect their identity and that of their communities, fostering a genuine sense of belonging.

By dispersing commercial content in a cloud of points, the intermediate spaces are enhanced, allowing for greater physical and conceptual openness. Previously underutilized areas become active links within this evolving shopping center, generating dynamic experiential connections.

Hybridizing the model

Each "particle" of the system is classified according to its scale, use, impact, and relationship with the landscape, forming a diverse and dynamic whole.

This approach values negative space, giving it high porosity and adaptability, fully integrating it with its context.

Jaén Plaza functions as a living organism, interacting with its users through a wide variety of spaces and activities. The interaction between these elements reinforces its capacity to give and receive, enriching the visitor's experience.

Breaking the stereotype

Porous access points, facades, and intermediate spaces reinforce the concept of a hub, redefining commercial hybridity and breaking with traditional retail stereotypes.

Commerce must evolve from closed boxes to experiential networks. To attract new generations—who are more critical of the traditional model—retail needs to offer experiences that surpass both online commerce and conventional downtown formats.

An active central space where commerce and social interaction flow naturally, reinterpreting retail as an immersive and constantly changing experience.

A dimensional design through open spaces that seamlessly connect the different levels, reinforcing movement and discovery, and guiding visitors through an open and interconnected shopping experience.

An elevated view of spaces that are often overlooked but essential. Through design, materiality, and lighting, the user experience is enhanced throughout their entire journey.

A porous and welcoming commercial front that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior, interacting with the urban fabric and the community.

A bold and playful threshold distinguishes the entrances through light and color, framing an elegant shared restroom area that redefines the conventional bathroom experience.

A large skylight floods the central corridor with light, creating a bright and open atmosphere that encourages fluid movement with an outdoor feel.
